AN official from the Land Transportation Office in Davao Region (LTO-Davao) warns drivers against fixers who promise faster driver license application and renewal processes.
Neil Cañedo, regional director of LTO-Davao, reminded anew during Wednesday's Media Forum at Habi at Kape on February 8, those drivers who lean to fixers to expedite their driver’s license process.
Cañedo said some of these drivers go to other regions and pay higher than usual just to get their licenses quickly.
He said that when these drivers apply for their licenses through fixers, they spend around P8,000 to P10,000.
For comparison, he said that LTO fees to apply for or renew a driver’s license could only reach more or less P800.
“Pila ra may cost nato mokuhag lisensya tawon, first ang procedure magkuhag lisensya, SP [student permit] 15 hours na TDC [Theoretical Driving Course], then medical exam (It is not expensive to get a license, first is to get a student permit, 15 hours of Theoretical Driving Course, tand hen medical exam),” he said.
He said that once they catch these drivers, they will revoke their licenses indefinitely.
“Ang problema man gud ana kana silang mga tawhana, gusto’g sayon, sa proseso nato wala may sayon it’s because para na sa ilaha (The problem with these drivers is they want a faster process to get the license but the reason why we have a process is for the benefit of everyone),” he added.
LTO-Davao said that they had apprehended 523 drivers this year, of which 12 had their licenses revoked.
“Sa Davao Region, gina-assure man gud nato sila na with regards with the registrations of vehicles for as long as ilahang mga documents kumpleto pagawson nato na within three days (In Davao Region, we assure the drivers that as long as their requirements are complete, we will release the license within three days after their application),” he said.
He said they are strengthening their campaign against fixers, especially since LTO is eyeing to digitize its transactions. ICE
