NEGROS Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said Wednesday, February 8, 2023, that Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo is willing to come to the province to discuss the establishment of the Negros Island Region.
However, Lacson said that right now, both are still busy.
Lacson went to Dumaguete City recently and had a closed-door meeting with Degamo on NIR.
However, Degamo's counter-proposal of creating an additional province was not received by most of the Negros Occidental officials.
"I said, we have just to address the equal footing issue that he has raised, but it doesn’t mean creating a new province for equal footing because there are other means. We just need to assure Negros Oriental that joining us will not put them at a disadvantage. We are committed to helping other provinces," Lacson said.
He added, "let’s continue to address the equality [issue]. He is also willing to come here," Lacson said.
