Pangan: Ambitious development plan

BY VIRTUE of Executive Order No. 14, Malacanang launched January 30, 2023 the grand Philippine DEvelopment Plan for 2023-2028.

President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos, Jr., presided over the revelation of the ambitious plan which aims to improve the country's economy, security and sovereignty within about six years from this year onward.

It urges all local government units to prepare similar plans to jibe with its main goals and allows synchronicity of the development programs embedded within the PDP.

Neda Secretary Arsenio Balisacan whose agency prepared the master plan, along with other Cabinet members witnessed the launch.

It is noted that past administrations have had similar development plans but for some reasons these did not muster enough support and enthusiasm to sustain them.

Now, this plan of President BBM which is sounding credible enough to be implemented by all concerned and not just be a piece of expensive paper.

Further, the development plan must be explained to the ultimate beneficiary-the Filipino consumers- so that they will appreciate all its ramifications and embrace it as their own, issues like the rising inflation, rising costs of basic commodities, the weakening purchasing power of peso and other similar consequences.

It should not follow the fate of other previous ambitious plans which only fizzled out after about a time and were not heard of since.

About the sovereign wealth fund dubbed Maharlika Investment Plan which PBBM expounded at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, some more prodding is needed to make it work and get off the ground soon as the enthusiasm of the people is growing.

It might be a good project, this, but the support of all government agencies and the people is a must, as it entails massive doses of funds from different sources and its objectives are far-reaching and all-inclusive.

The PBBM administration, still in its infancy, must be supported to make it viable and encouraging as it tackles issues wholeheartedly.
