Firefighters were supposed to declare the fire out around 11 a.m., but the fire spread to the adjacent building through the ceiling.

The affected establishments were mercantile businesses.

The fire status was raised to a second alarm.

City fire marshal Chief Inspector Rodel Legaspi said that it took more than five hours for firefighters to combat the blaze due to the combustible materials in the buildings, which were damaged.
