BACOLOD City celebrated the 12th edition of World Radio Day at the lobby of City Government Center, Monday, February 13, 2023.

In observance of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), this year’s theme was “Radio and Peace.”

Councilor Jason Villarosa, SP Committee Chalirman on Information and Communications Technology, delivered Mayor Albee Benitez’ message acknowledging the role of radio on “nation-building, promoting public cooperation, and raising awareness on certain causes,” reaching to far-flung communities where the Internet and social media is inaccessible.

“The Bacolod City Government is one with the world in the efforts to amplify the call for more appreciation towards our radio stations and practitioners and in empowering Freedom of Speech and Expression,” Villarosa added.

KBP-Bacolod & Negros Occidental Chairperson Chona Gosiaco corroborated that radio is a social neutralizer that represents all people from all walks of life, making its peace-making ability extensive.

City Councilors Hon. Thaddy Sayson, Hon. Jason Villarosa, Hon. Celia Flor, Hon. Israel Salanga, and Hon. Vladi Gonzalez also attended the celebration together with the different radio personalities in Bacolod city, their management and staff. (PR)
