DMW warns public vs online illegal recruiters

AMID the emergence of cryptocurrency trafficking rings, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Saturday, February 18, 2023, warned the public anew against illegal recruitment activities being done online.

In a social media post, the DMW called on aspiring overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to be vigilant against those looking to recruit them via online job offers.

"Be vigilant against illegal recruiters prevalent on social media and other online platforms," said the DMW.

It said that one way to do so is by verifying with the DMW if the recruitment agencies and agents are accredited and are not suspended or with canceled licenses.

The DMW said such verification may be done online via https://www.dmw.gov.ph/licensed-recruitment-agencies.

"Always verify first with the DMW if the agency and agents are licensed to make sure that the overseas jobs they offer are legitimate," said DMW.

The warning was issued as tens of OFWs have fallen victim to cryptocurrency trafficking rings operating in Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos.

The victims reportedly saw the job offers online and were subsequently recruited virtually. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
