146 people hired ‘on the spot’ during job fair

A TOTAL of 146 individuals were hired on the spot during the Lapu-Lapu City Government’s first job fair for this year.

However, the number of positions that were filled up only constituted 9.25 percent of the total 1,578 job openings offered by 27 companies.

The reason behind this could be that only less than 1,000 applicants flocked to the job fair, which was held at The Outlets in Pueblo Verde in Barangay Basak on a rainy Saturday, Feb. 18, according to Kim Francisco, head of the City’s Public Employment Service Office (Peso).

The activity was organized by the City Government, through Peso and the Department of Labor and Employment 7, Aboitiz InfraCapital and Mactan Economic Zone (MEZ 2) estates.

The event was graced by Lapu-Lapu City Vice Mayor Celedonio “Celsi” Sitoy and City Councilor Eugene Espedido.

Sitoy urged jobseekers not to stop from reaching their dream, adding that the City Government’s goal is to secure a good future for Oponganons, especially the youth.
