ONION prices at Bankerohan Public Market dropped to as low as P160 per kilogram following an increase in supply due to the importation of onions.

As of press time, white onions are sold at P160 to P250 per kilogram and red onions are sold at P190 to P320 per kilogram in Bankerohan.

Compared to last week, white onions are sold at P200 to P250 per kilogram, while red onions cost P220 to P360 per kilogram.

Vendors said there is a surplus of onions in the market following the importation of the commodity. They are also expecting the price to continue to drop as more importations come in.

“Nibarato na ang bombay kay daghan supply ug need na namo ibarato kay ningbarato na pod ang ubang tindero (Onions now are cheaper and we can sell it a lower price because there is more supply now. Other vendors have also dropped their prices),” Nancy Lucman, vendor, said.

“Gina-expect namo na magbaba ang presyo sunod semana and gusto gyud na sa tao, pero kung karon dili mi makadali-dali ana (We expect the prices to continue to go down in the coming weeks. Our customers would love that. However, for now, we cannot rush the decrease in prices),” another vendor, who requested anonymity, said. ICE
