LOCAL police in Mandaue City are set to investigate who dumped a dead fetus discovered by septic tank cleaners inside their truck on Friday morning, Feb. 24, 2023.

Patrolman Jemson Tolin of the Mandaue City Police Office’s Station 1 in Barangay Centro, said that based on initial reports, the fetus could have been originally discarded in one of the portable toilets placed at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) in Barangay Guizo.

Tolin said septic tank cleaners reported the matter to them at around 11:30 a.m.

The cleaners were still outside the CICC and were transferring the waste into their truck when driver Rowel Moreno found the fetus floating inside.

He initially mistook the fetus for a dead animal.

This prompted Moreno to call the Mandaue City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office for assistance.

Female

Tolin said they brought the already dead fetus, which was identified as female, to the Mandaue City District Hospital.

Tolin said they are not discounting the possibility that one of the informal settlers living at the CICC was behind the disposal of the dead fetus.
