Bacolod Swat team to undergo marksmanship training

THE Special Weapons and Tactics Team (Swat) of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) will undergo marksmanship training next week, Councilor Al Victor Espino said Friday, February 24.

Espino, chairperson of the City Council committee on laws, said the city government has provided assistance to the BCPO’s Swat training.

He said the city donated 8,000 rounds of.9-millimeter ammunition for the training.

Espino noted that on February 20, about 20 members of Swat already finished their training, and they will undergo the marksmanship evaluation next week.

Espino, who will be in charge of the program, said the Swat team is a specialized unit, and they need more training compared to other police officers.

"Our Swat team should be accurate with their shots," he said.

Aside from the Swat training, Espino said he is also proposing to Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez to require BCPO personnel, who are receiving city allowance, to undergo marksmanship training before the release of the budget.

"Marksmanship is essential to our law enforcement to ensure the proficient use of their firearms," he said.

He added that at least 780 BCPO personnel are receiving allowances from the city government.

Espino disclosed that the city mayor is also planning to increase the allowance of the city police from P1,000 to P1,500 a month.
