Cebu City eyes to finish construction of 40 socialized housing buildings this year

THE Cebu City Division for the Welfare of the Urban Poor (DWUP) eyes to complete Phase 1 of the South Coastal Urban Development (Scud) within this year.

The project was inaugurated by national and local government last Monday, February 27, 2023.

DWUP head Anthony Librando told SunStar Cebu they will begin negotiating with owners of the five-hectare property where 40 socialized housing buildings will be built.

He said the City Government has allocated P1.5 billion for the acquisition of lots that are spread across Barangays Kinasang-an Pardo, Basak Pardo and Basak San Nicolas.

He said they will schedule a dialogue with the owners after their lots are appraised by the City Assessor’s Office.

Librando said Mayor Michael Rama gave them a directive to fast-tract the completion of the project.

Under Phase 1, the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) will construct 20 high-rise twin tower buildings, while the City Government will also construct 20 medium-rise buildings (MRBs).

Librando said the DHSUD’s buildings will have 8,000 housing units, while the City’s MRBs will have 2,000 units. Combined the units will accommodate 10,000 informal settlers. (IRT, PJB)
