Mati — City of Beautiful Bays

Mayo Bay
Mayo Bay

THE City of Mati is home to the 3 Most Beautiful Bays in the World (MBBW) -- Balete, Mayo and Pujada Bays.

The 3 bays teem with rich marine resources from turtles, dolphins, dugongs, to corals and reefs.

Balete Bay is the smallest of the three bays and is actually an inlet of the adjacent Pujada Bay. Balete Bay is where wild lobster fry fisheries are located.

Pujada Bay meanwhile has three islands namely Pujada, Waniban and Oak. It covers 21,200 hectares with 16 of the total 26 barangays of the City of Mati surrounding the bay.

Mayo Bay meanwhile is home to Dahican Beach known for its picturesque 7-kilometer long white sand and huge waves suitable for skimboarding and surfing.

Dahican got its name from native word "dahic" which means the act of digging to lay eggs. Since time immemorial, Dahican is where marine turtles lay their eggs.

At present, the local government along with local residents of Dahican have joined hands in establishing a turtle hatchery where eggs are protected until they hatch.

Mayo Bay is also where pods of dolphins are usually seen. Dugongs can also be seen feeding from Dahican's rich seagrass.

Make Mati your next destination because it is nice here. Make it Mati, Maganahay Ngadi!

Mati City Mayor Michelle Marie Denise N. Rabat message for MiceCon 2023

To the delegates of the Philippine M.I.C.E. Conference 2023, welcome to the Davao region!

As a young city in Southern Mindanao, the City of Mati has a lot to offer to visitors like you.

We take pride in the fact that it is only Mati that has been recognized as having not one but three bays in the prestigious most beautiful bays of the world — our Balete, Pujada, and Mayo bays. Thus we are known as the city with the beautiful bays.

From highlands to the ocean, is another one of our brandings as we are part of the UNESCO world heritage site. The Mt. Hamiguitan range lies in our boundary along with the municipalities of San Isidro and Governor Generoso.

Our Pujada landscape and seascape is a 21,200-hectare marine protected area that is home to dolphins, dugongs, marine turtles, and other aquatic animals. We also have beautiful corals and reefs which is why we hosted the 1st ever Bay Deep Freediving Festival in the country.

And of course, who can miss our Dahican beach? The site of our turtle nesting sanctuary and our skimboarding and surboarding activities.

So come and visit us in the city of Mati to really complete your Davao experience. See you soon!
