THE Mandaue City Government has recorded 72 dengue cases from January to February this year.

The city has yet to report a single death from dengue, said Percy Mendoza-Pongas, the Mandaue City Health Office (MCHO) dengue coordinator, on Wednesday, March 1, 2023.

From January to October last year, the Department of Health in Central Visayas recorded 792 dengue cases and eight deaths in Mandaue City.

But Dr. Dominga Obenza, MCHO head, said that they don’t want to be complacent even though they had recorded low number of dengue cases in the first two months of this year.

Obenza said they have decided to deploy five of their nine doctors within the city’s five cluster areas to help in regulating the number of dengue cases.

Aside from regulating dengue cases, the doctors assigned in Mandaue’s cluster areas could help in bringing dengue services closer to their constituents.

Obenza said the doctors visit at least two of the barangays assigned to them every day, and they are tasked inspect their jurisdictions regularly.

Obenza said they have continue to strengthen their dengue prevention and awareness campaign that includes the 4S strategy (Search and destroy mosquito breeding sites, Seek early consultation from health experts; Secure self-protection; and Support fogging/spraying).

The MCHO regularly applies larvicide on stagnant waters in the city. It has also activated dengue brigades for each barangay. Mandaue City has 27 barangays.

She also encouraged people to regularly clean their surroundings.

Obenza continued urging people who have experienced early symptoms of dengue such as fever and rash to seek free medical consultation and laboratory examination, either directly with the cluster doctors or at the MCHO.

“If there is fever, please do not wait for five days to seek medical consultation because we already have doctors assigned in each of our clusters,” said Obenza.
