Alegria, Badian to ‘harmonize’ canyoneering activities

THE municipalities of Alegria and Badian in southwest Cebu have agreed to harmonize their canyoneering activities at the Kanlaob River.

On Wednesday, March 1, 2023, Badian Mayor Carmencita Lumain and Alegria Mayor Gilberto Magallon agreed to sign a memorandum of agreement (MOA) following a meeting with Gov.

Gwendolyn Garcia at the Provincial Capitol on the same day.

The MOA signing will take place on March 21, according to a report by Sugbo News, the Capitol’s social media arm.

The MOA aims to finally settle a boundary dispute between the two towns concerning the use of the Kanlaob River, which runs through Barangay Compostela in Alegria and Barangay Matutinao in Badian.

Both towns are well known for their canyoneering activities and attracted a lot of tourists before the Covid-19 pandemic began.

During the meeting, Governor Garcia reiterated her stance of putting tourism on top of her priorities, saying that its ripple economic benefits reach down to the grassroots level.
