TWG formed to study proposed Green Building Code of Cagayan de Oro

THE City Government, through its Committee on Planning, Research and Development, has created a technical working group (TWG) to study and refine the provisions of the proposed Green Building Code of Cagayan de Oro.

The TWG is spearheaded by the Office of Building Official (OBO) and Xavier University.

According to City Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya, the chairman of the Committee on Planning, Research and Development, one of the functions of the TWG is to look into the costing of the projects that would cover the greening of the building. This includes the cost for the development of rainwater catchment, ventilation, and the use of solar power as a resource that would make up the green building.

"There is a need to also consider to incentivize those who would take part in the compliance of greening their buildings," Nacaya said.

The city councilor added that they also have to study the building costs for socialize, mid-level and high-end housing projects as there is a lack of details on these projects in the national green building code.

"We have seen that in the National Green Building Code there is no saying on the socialized housing projects in the economic class even in the open and high-end class," Nacaya said.

"The study is limited to what is found in the provisions of the National Building Code. That's why it did not cover and no recommendation on this type of discussions on the socialized housing programs and projects within the city of Cagayan de Oro," he added.
