(UPDATED) A MAGNITUDE 5.9 earthquake struck New Bataan town in Davao de Oro on Tuesday afternoon, March 7, 2023.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the earthquake jolted the town at 2:02 p.m.
Phivolcs earlier reported that the tremor's magnitude was at 6.2, while its epicenter was at Maragusan.
The tectonic quake had a depth of 10 kilometers.
The quake was felt at Intensity 5 in Maco, Maragusan, Nabunturan, New Bataan, and Pantukan in Davao de Oro, while Intensity 4 in Monkayo, Davao de Oro; Tagum City, Davao del Norte; and Bislig City, Surigao del Sur.
It was felt at Intensity 3 in Santa Cruz, Davao del Sur; Davao City; and Mati City, Davao Oriental; Intensity 2 in Cagayan De Oro City; Antipas, Carmen, and Kidapawan City of Cotabato; and Columbio, Sultan Kudarat; and Intensity 1 in Aleosan, Cotabato; Esperanza, Lutayan, and President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat.

The reported intensity was based on reports of people who felt the earthquake, while instrumental intensity is measured using an intensity meter that measures ground acceleration.
Governor Dorothy Montejo-Gonzaga declared suspension of work and classes in the whole province of Davao de Oro starting Tuesday, March 7, after the magnitude 6.2 earthquake that happened in the afternoon.
