THE 11th SM2SM Run returned on Sunday, March 5, 2023, after a two-year hiatus brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to SM management, over 9,500 runners joined the race in all of the featured categories. With 21K, 12K, 8K and 4K distances that started at SM Seaside Cebu through the South Road Properties road, runners witnessed the morning light that washed over Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway and the seafront of the city.

SM also held a raffle and gave away prizes from branded eye wear, gift cards, mobile phones, TV sets, to a Suzuki S-Presso. Around P650,000 were also in line for the runners who made it to the podium in their respective categories.

Cherry Andrin claimed the 50,000 prize money after winning the open category for the women’s division with a record of one hour, 26 minutes and 28 seconds.

“The fun run makes it worthwhile because you’re with friends and people who have the same passion as you,” said Chelsea Lim, a 4K runner.

She added that with the resumption of the SM fun run, it was great to see activities go back to full capacity after experiencing a two-year break of being disconnected from the world.

“SM2SM Run and similar activities encourage people to have a more active lifestyle, and not just physically, but also improves one’s social and mental well-being,” Lim said.

SM Prime Holdings vice president for Visayas and Mindanao Marissa Fernan said during the awarding ceremony that they are looking forward to the 12th installment of the SM2SM Run, hoping to beat the summer heat in March 2024. (EKV)
