NOW in its third year, the British Council is once again offering scholarships for Women in STEM. This scheme is aimed at supporting women who wish to pursue their master’s degrees in the UK in areas related to Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
In partnership with 21 UK universities, the scholarship grant will support over 100 women from countries in the Americas, South Asia, and East Asia, including the Philippines.
This scholarship scheme includes tuition fees, monthly stipend, travel costs, visa and health coverage fees. It is also open to women with dependants and contains provisions for scholars that might need a short pre-sessional English course to achieve the language level needed to undergo their studies.
Eligible candidates can take up a course of study in the UK for the academic year from September/October 2023 – 2024. They must demonstrate a need for financial support and must have an undergraduate degree that will enable them to gain access to one of the pre-selected postgraduate courses. They must also be active in the field with work experience or proven interest in their subject area.
Filipinos are eligible for master’s scholarships and early academic fellowships for Middlesex University, University of Strathclyde, and Newcastle University.
Now on its 45th year in the Philippines, the British Council adds the Women in STEM scholarship to its impressive roster of impactful projects, alongside developing transnational education programmes and supporting science education scholars through the Newton Agham fund.
“The British Council has always been committed to supporting efforts to improve the quality of education worldwide. We are excited to offer opportunities like the Women in STEM scholarship to Filipinas, whom we know are extremely talented and can benefit greatly through this programme,” says Lotus Postrado, Country Director for the Philippines.
Applications for the British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM are open between March until May 2023, with deadlines varying based on the partner university.
British Council has set up a page with further information regarding the scholarship, including details of the courses available and contact information of participating universities.
