THE provincial government of Nueva Vizcaya in partnership with the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) will be expanding coconut plantations in the province to help farmers and promote "buko" pie industry.

Provincial Agriculturist Absalom Baysa said they have already identified coconut plantations in the province in preparation for the PLGU-PCA Partnership Project.

“Our farmers will benefit from this project since the PCA will give planting materials and technical assistance for them,” he said.

Baysa said the PCA will also give incentives for the coconut farmers’ trees at P20 per piece.

He said the expansion of coconut plantation in the province will also help the Buko Pie Industry in Bagabag.

Baysa said the "buko" pie industry operators are sourcing and buying their coconut products outside the province at P30 a piece.

“With the expanded coconut plantation in our province, our ‘buko’ pie industry operators can have a lower price of coconut materials from our own farmers,” he said. (PR)
