CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama offered his condolences to the bereaved family of Negros Oriental governor Roel Degamo who was brutally slain in his residence last March 4, 2023.
On a social media post of the City’s Public Information Office on Sunday, March 12, Rama had a conversation with the late governor’s wife, Janice Degamo, who is also the mayor of Pamplona town in Negros Oriental.
Rama told Janice how he and Roel became colleagues at the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) in the early 2000s.
Janice said Roel became a councilor first before becoming a member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and eventually reaching the position of governor.
Rama, who is currently the president of the League of Cities of the Philippines, also served as national president of the PCL from 1998 to 2001.
Janice disclosed that Roel and the Degamos have roots in the town of Cordova in Mactan Island.
The assassination of Roel also left eight civilians dead and 17 others injured.
