THE remains of the late Negros Oriental Governor Roel Ragay Degamo were moved to Siaton town, where he was born, in preparation for his scheduled burial on Thursday, March 16, 2023.

Police and military forces have also been deployed there to secure his wake.

Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Ace Pelare, spokesperson for Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Degamo, siad they enhanced the security in Siaton together with the soldiers from the Visayas Command to prepare for the large number of people expected to attend Degamo’s burial.

“As you know, the joint task force sa Degamo uban sa PNP ug sa Armed Forces nag-maximize sa atong presence diha sa Negros, including na diha sa Siaton ug ang funeral nga mahitabo for guv,” Pelare said.

(The joint task force Degamo, along with the Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines, maximized their presence in Negros, including Siaton where the funeral will happen.)

Pelare added that the governor is expected to receive full military honors if the Provincial Government officials decide to do so.

He said the continued search for the suspects who are still at large is the reason for the military and police presence on Negros Island.

They believe that the suspects have not yet left Negros.

Among the duties assigned by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is to provide security to the residents and to dismantle private armed groups supported by politicians.

Degamo was shot to death on March 4 in his residential compound in Pamplona town while he was meeting with his constituents.

The brutal incident also left eight civilians dead and 17 others injured. (AYB/TPT)
