A DEPARTMENT of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) official said artificial intelligence (AI) should be treated as a tool to improve the creative industry’s individuality, not seen as a threat to their workforce.

“That’s the key, nobody will teach you this [creative] style, it’s up to them [creative industry], AI will just help them facilitate the process of developing these [creative] areas,” Dr. Enrico Paringit, executive director for DOST-PCIEERD, said in a press conference.

He also said artificial intelligence (AI) will help the creative industry in the Philippines to reach “globally competitive relevance” status.

Paringit said through RA 11904, which is also known as Philippine Creative Industries Development Act, creative industries will be given support by the government, like funding, digitalization, and additional resources.

Creative industries are defined as “those directly or indirectly involved in the creation, production and manufacturing, performance, broadcasting, communication and exhibition, or distribution and sale of works and other subject matter, in accordance with existing laws, rules and regulations on intellectual property rights protection,”, according to the Republic Act Number 11904

He also said the creative industry will be “most thriving in the future” because of its vast potential opportunities. He added they will also incorporate AI in helping the creative industry.

“We [Filipinos] are a very creative culture, but what’s holding them back is the access to these technologies they could try,” Paringit said.

Paringit emphasized that the Filipino creative industry must be “creative, resourceful, and utilize innovations” and not lean on asking machines to provide to people. ICE
