Town braces for bird flu

MINALIN The local government here is implementing measures to prevent another avian influenza or bird flu outbreak.

The Minalin Veterinary Office on Thursday conducted simultaneous swab and collection of blood samples on various avian species in the 15 barangays in town.

This is part of the Municipal Bird Flu Prevention and Control Program of the local government in partnership with Department of Agriculture Region III and Provincial Veterinary Office.

The program aims to regularly monitor the status of bird species, including chicken and ducks, to prevent outbreaks.

A bird flu outbreak was reported in this town in 2022. At least 100,000 egg-producing chickens were culled here and in adjacent Santo Tomas town.

Poultry growing is one of the major livelihoods in the two towns which are among the top producers of chicken and duck eggs in Central Luzon.

The local government thanked poultry owners for their cooperation to the program.
