A 47-YEAR-OLD woman was not able to drink water after she was shot by a lone gunman in Sitio Ponce 2, Barangay Carreta, Cebu City at 5 a.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2023.
The victim, identified as Lorna Bicada, sustained a gunshot wound in her right shoulder.
The victim had gone out of her home to drink water from a water vending machine when the gunman approached her and asked if she was Lorna Bicada, according to MSgt. Winston Ybañez, Waterfront Police Station investigator.
After Bicada said that she was, the latter pulled out a gun and shot her.
Bicada was rushed to the hospital.
“Nagtuo ang biktima nga naalaan siyang asset sa police. Dunay mga nadakpan sa lugar sa illegal nga drugas,” Ybañez said.
(The victim believes she was mistakenly identified as a police asset. Some individuals in their place had been arrested due to illegal drugs).
Bicada revealed that she has friends who are police officers, so the possibility that she was mistaken for a police asset is not remote, Ybañez said.
The police are conducting an investigation to identify the suspect.
The victim was declared out of danger, Ybañez said. (GPL / TPT)
