THE Municipality of Cordova in Mactan Island plans to build two diversion roads that will lead to Lapu-Lapu City.

One will be in Barangay Ibabao and the other will be in Barangay Gabi.

Vice Mayor Victor Tago said they want to divide motorists and decongest traffic.

However, Tago said they still have to look for a budget to fund both projects.

He said they also plan to build roads from Barangay Buagson to Barangay Catarman, Barangay Day-as to Barangay Bangbang and Barangay Bangbang to Barangay San MIguel.

He said the Municipal Government may be able to fund some of these projects, but they will also seek the assistance of the office of Sixth District Rep. Daphne Lagon, especially for the road concreting.

Tago said there is an ongoing road construction from Barangay Gabi to Barangay Alegria.

He said they are focusing on building coastal highways because they cannot easily widen the roads in the town because of the limited space.

Meanwhile, Tago said they are waiting for the budget from the National Government, through the office of Lagon and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7, to implement a road-widening project from Barangay Gabi to Barangay Poblacion.

He said they hope to start paying owners of lots and structures that will be affected by the project at the end of this year or early next year.

“Tungod man gud sa rate sa yuta mahal-mahal, dako-dako gyud og gasto ang (Because the land rate is expensive, it’s going to cost the) National Government,” he said, adding that the stretch of road that will be widened will be around two to three kilometers.

Tago said the project will be implemented in phases since the DPWH 7 will not start the construction until all affected lots are secured.
