'Diri sa DepEd Onse' is back

THE online broadcast of the Department of Education (DepEd) dubbed Diri sa DepEd Onse is back for its fifth season featuring the reporting and broadcasting skills of learners in the Special Program in Journalism (SPJ) and Special Program for the Arts (SPA).

The SPJ strengthens free and responsible journalism in public secondary schools that offer the program. With its pilot implementation in 2009, the curriculum for this specialization program includes developing skills in writing articles, script writing, and broadcasting for radio, television, and online.

The SPA, which includes media arts in its curriculum, enhances the skills in photography, photo editing through a computer, music remixing, movie making and editing, and computer art.

With the combination of all these skills, the learners can surely create an online broadcast that becomes the primary source of information about DepEd Davao Region with appropriate and attractive publication material (pubmat).

The Diri sa DepEd Onse Season 5 will be branded as Diri sa DepEd Onse: Mas Matatag featuring the agenda of Vice President (VP) and DepEd Secretary (Sec.) Sara Z. Duterte. Its new airtime is every Friday from 12:00 to 12:30.

This online broadcast will become the avenue in the information campaign of DepEd’s MATATAG agenda and as a means for performance-based outputs.

The SPJ and SPA learners and teachers will use the official broadcasting program of Davao Region as a tool to showcase their learnings, creativity, and innovations.

We can witness how these learners, during the pre-production, will gather information, write reports, make scripts, and plan for creative performance. The scouting of talents is also done here.

For the production stage, we can see how these learners project themselves in front of a camera upon the finalization of the scripts. We can also witness their skills in handling the camera taking shots and angles. The learners are encouraged to use available resources like smartphones.

The post-production stage will showcase their talents in video and audio editing. All these skills and competencies are learned in SPJ and SPA. So, this looks like on-the-job training for them. Seeing them in an online broadcast is something to be proud of.

For the pubmat, the learners in SPA as well as the Arts and Design track will make the posters and other forms of publication.

The learners may highlight the best practices and the achievements in their school or community, narrate and share stories of success and progress among co-learners or teachers or education leaders, or share stories with essentials.

The essential stories capture events and situations far more important like an act of generosity or kindness, a project to empower families, or an initiative to help the community.

The stories in the online broadcast will highlight what has been done in Davao Region, the current situation, and the projects that will soon be implemented.

This program targets to involve everyone in the education of the youth. As the agenda of VP and Sec. Duterte is to make everyone an education stakeholder, the Diri sa DepEd Onse: Mas Matatag will showcase the existing state and improvement in the curriculum, the services offered, the expansion of facilities, the engagements of learners, as well as the upgrade of teachers.

With almost 150,000 followers on DepEd’s official social media page - DepEd Region XI, the Diri sa DepEd Onse: Mas Matatag will show relevant information and promising performances of SPJ and SPA learners.

This online broadcast would not be possible without the guidance of Regional Director Allan G. Farnazo. This was his brainchild. He continues to develop people to develop exemplary performances.

With him is the support and guidance too of Assistant Regional Director Maria Ines C. Asuncion. She becomes a sharp eye on all the episodes.

Watch the Diri sa DepEd Onse: Mas Matatag every Friday from 12 to 12:30 noon and know more about DepEd and how these SPJ and SPA learners perform.
