A MAN shot and killed his wife after she allegedly left him for their neighbor.
The incident happened in Purok Talisay, Barangay Poblacion in the northern town of Compostela, Cebu at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2023.
Police identified the suspect as Sidney Toledo, and the victim as Evelyn Toledo, both 40.
Staff Sergeant Daryl Rondina, investigator of the Compostela Police Station, said the motive for the crime was jealousy. According to his initial investigation, Evelyn was tending her store when Sidney arrived on his motorcycle. The two argued. Sidney pulled out a gun and aimed it at Evelyn. When she tried to grab it, he shot her in the chest.
The suspect fled on his motorcycle and has not been seen since. The victim was rushed to the Mendero Hospital in the neighboring town of Consolacion where she later died.
“Gibuwagan daw ni sa asawa. Dili daw makadawat nga ilisan sa silingan. Mibahad nga puslan man daw nga biyaan sa asawa bawnon ni niya sa prisohan,” Rondina said.
(He couldn’t accept that his wife had left him for a neighbor. He threatened to take her to jail with him.)
The police investigator learned that the victim had gone to the police for assistance several times. Apparently, the husband would beat her every time he got jealous.
Rondina said Sidney went to jail in Danao City after he was arrested for selling drugs. He said Sidney was released after posting bail.
