VENDORS at the Bankerohan Public Market are expecting that the price of durian will more than double in the coming weeks as supply drops and demand remains high.

“Mutaas pa na kay pawala na [ang durian]. Musaka pa na ug P150 per kilo (We are expecting that the price will continue to go up as the harvest season ends. We expect it to reach P150 per kilogram)," Jun-jun, a Durian vendor in Bankerohan Public Market, said in an interview with SunStar Davao on March 20, 2023.

Based on the price monitoring conducted by SunStar Davao at the Bankerohan Public Market, the Arancillo variety is being sold at P50/kg to P70/kg, Basketball at P60/kg to P70/kg, Puyat at P65/kg to P100/kg, and frozen durian, regardless of variety, is at P200 to P300 per pack.

Its current price is slightly higher than it was a week ago. The price increase was due to a lower supply from durian farms in Calinan and Toril.

“Pataas na ang presyo [sa durian] kay nihit na ang harvest (The price of durian is increasing due to low harvest),” Rodel, another vendor, said.

Meanwhile, durian prices at Magsaysay Fruit Stand remain to be at P50/kg to P60/kg. Vendors here note that they still have enough supply from their sources.

“Tungod kay daghan pa ang supply maong wala pa nag bag-o ang presyo [sa durian] (because there is still a lot of supply, the price has not changed),” Reden Añura, a fruit vendor at the Magsaysay Fruit Stand, said. (Davao del Norte State College Communication Interns)
