THE third tranche of the daily minimum wage hike in Davao Region will push through in April, according to the regional Department of Labor And Employment (DOLE-Davao).

Amounting P15, the third tranche is applicable only to the retail/service industry employing less than 10 employees.

In total, the daily minimum wage will increase P443 for this sector.

However, the first two tranches of the wage hike, as per Wage Order No. RB XI-21 by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board of DOLE-Davao, was already implemented last June 2022 and January of this year.

DOLE-Davao regional director Atty. Randolf Pensoy said the implementation for the first two tranches is going smoothly by the involved sectors.

He mentioned they did not receive additional petitions or applications for exemption to the wage hike increase.

“Maayo ang pag dala and pag dawat bisan pa man naa mga mulo sa atong employers and employee, labi na sa mga employee na kulang kuno ang gihatag na increase. Pero diliman pud nato biglaon o pugson ang employer (We were able to address the concerns of the employers and employees, especially the employees who said the increase is not enough. But we also had to consider the employers’ capacity to give the wage),” Pensoy during the Kapehan sa PIA on March 17.

Since the wage hike, Pensoy also said that they are monitoring if the business establishments or employers are implementing the new wages through their labor inspection program.

Those who are caught violating the wage order, will be subject to appropriate sanctions.

“Kung dili mubayad ang employer, pabayaron pa siya sa indemnity sa sweldo, double pa. Pwede pa sila ma-file og kaso sa employee (If the employer will not pay properly, then they would also have to pay for the indemnity so it will double. The employee could also file a case against them),” Pensoy said.

For the first tranche implemented last June 2022, the amount of increase was P31 and P16 for the second tranche.

This was applicable to the non-agriculture sector, such as Industrial/Commercial and Retail/Service industries which will increase the minimum daily wage to P443 from P396.

For the agriculture sector, the new minimum daily wage is P438 from P391. ICM
