Large cache of illegal firearms recovered in Makati condo

POLICE seized over 80 firearms during a raid in a posh condominium in Makati City on Monday, March 20, 2023, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) announced Tuesday, March 21.

The CIDG said the operation was a service of a search warrant against Jiang Zhang Xiadong, also known as Liu Ming Chung, a suspected ringleader of a Taiwan-based criminal group, in his rented condominium unit in Edades Tower in Rockwell Center.

Jiang was not in the area during the service of the warrant but police expressed strong belief that he is still in the Philippines.

Police recovered 12 revolvers, 53 pistol, six folding submachine gun, one FN p90, 13 rifle 5.56, one lower receiver 7.62, one roni kit, hundred rounds of assorted ammunition, assorted magazines of different firearms, three suppressor and four pieces of caliber 9mm barrel.

CIDG Director Brigadier General Romeo Caramat said they confiscated illegal firearms worth “millions of pesos.”

The operation is an offshoot of an operation on March 1 launched by the CIDG, Makati City Police Station, Bureau of Immigration and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, through information provided by law enforcement counterparts from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (teco), for the implementation of warrants of deportation and mission order against three Taiwanese also Makati City that also led to the confiscation of four pistols and a submachine gun.

The suspects were identified as Wu Jhen Long, Chen Chien-ning, Yang Zong Bao and a minor, who were all fugitives in their country over alleged involvement in different illegal operations such as production of illegal narcotics, telecom fraud operations, and other illegal activities in the Philippines.
