JUSTICE Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 that almost all in the “attack team” during Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo’s assassination is now under police custody following the surrender of four more individuals.
In a chance interview, Remulla said the four individuals who were former military personnel surrendered to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and will be turned over to the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Wednesday, March 22.
“Wala pa (silang naissue na statement). May debriefing na sila but it’s for purposes of military intelligence but we’ll be getting it. Ito sila mismo ang sumuko. They arranged for their own surrender,” he said.
Four gunmen in Degamo’s assassination were arrested by the police hours following the attack.
Last week, another former soldier who admitted hand in the crime also surrendered to the Philippine military.
The Task Force Degamo said these suspects were major players in Degamo’s killing which also left eight other individuals, including innocent civilians, dead.
Negros Oriental third district representative Arnulfo Teves Jr. was tagged as the mastermind of the killing. (SunStar Philippines)
