THE Lapu-Lapu City Government will continue to allow the entry of pigs from other towns and cities in Cebu Province provided that those delivering them can present legal documents.

This was what City Veterinarian Dr. Janice Togonon told SunStar Cebu Thursday, March 23, 2023, two days after the consultative meeting initiated by Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia at the Capitol Social Hall.

Togonon said the City supported Garcia when the latter announced the lifting of all controls on the movement of hogs across Cebu Province Tuesday, following the detection of African swine fever (ASF) in six areas in the province this month.

She said a copy of Garcia’s Executive Order 10-2023 was already forwarded to the office of Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan, which allows the “free movement of pigs and pork products” within the Province of Cebu subject to the submission, in the case of live pigs, of the accomplished Backyard Swine Registration Form and Veterinary Health Certificates issued by their respective local government unit veterinarians.

Togonon said she and City Administrator Danilo Almendras represented Lapu-Lapu City during the meeting.

Togonon emphasized that they strictly prohibit the entry of pigs with no legal documents to ensure that only those healthy ones can enter the city.

Last March 8, Chan banned the entry of live hogs and other pork-related products from Carcar City and Negros Island for 30 days, after ASF was detected for the first time in Cebu in Carcar City.

Togonon, however, clarified that they still have to wait if Chan will issue another order.
