Davao City announces traffic rerouting during Ironman race

THE local government of Davao City through the City Transportation and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) has announced major rerouting schemes in time for the Ironman 70.3 race that will happen on Sunday, March 26.

The Ironman 70.3 Marathon will involve a 1.9-kilometer swim, a 21-kilometer run and a 90-kilometer bike course. The CTTMO has prepared alternative routes for motorists traveling during March 26 from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The bike course will start at Azuela Cove towards Robinsons Mall in Tagum City. The Maharlika Highway will be closed to vehicular traffic starting 3:00 a.m. on March 26. By 10:30 a.m. the southbound lane will be open to vehicles. The northbound lane of the Maharlika Highway will be closed from 3:00 a.m. to 12:30 noon after which the whole highway will be open to traffic.

According to an advisory given by the CTTMO motorists will take the alternative route in Milan, Buhangin towards Tagum City.

The run course will start from Azuela Cove in Lanang R. Castillo to corner F. Torres-J.P. Laurel Avenue. The section of the road will be closed from 3 am to 3 p.m. The southbound lane going to the city will be open for two-way traffic.

According to CTTMO chief Dionisio Abude, they will be deploying 300 personnel for the race.

“Almost 300 plus ang akong gi-deploy from Azuela Cove up to Robinsons Tagum ( We will deploy more than 300 personnel from Azuela Cove up to Robinsons Tagum),” Abude said.

To disseminate the information their office has given flyers to those affected establishments.

“Naghatag ta og mga flyers, naghatag ta og letter sa tanang establishment, simbahan, sa mga malls ug hospital. Tanang establishment nga naay negosyo along sa atong ruta is gipangtagaan nato silag pahibalo, especially kadtong magparking gikan sa F. Torres hangtod sa Lasang. Dapat diri sa atong jurisdiction is dapat walay magparking bisan isa nga sakyanan. (We have given flyers, letters to all establishments, churches, malls, and hospitals. All businesses along the route, especially from F. Torees to Lasang, were given notices that parking will not be allowed in the areas),” Abude said.

The Ironman race coincides with Civil Service Exams that will be held in Davao City. Three buses have been provided for exam-takers with one bus deployed at Gaisano Mall in Tagum City, another bus will be waiting at Jollibee-Panabo City and one bus will be in front of the terminal in Carmen, Davao del Norte.

Aside from the main race road closures will be implemented on March 24(PIA/RG Alama) starting from 4 p.m.- 8 p.m. at Castillo St., –northbound lane only, going to Lanang from corner Azuela Cove to corner San Nicolas Road (Techno-Trade Resources Davao) for the IronGirl race.

On March 25 the road closure will start from 5 a.m.- 9 p.m. – from R. Castillo St., northbound lane from corner Azuela to corner Jerome St., Agdao. (PIA DAVAO)
