IN preparation for the awaited Ironman 70.3 event, Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) said they have enhanced their emergency response measures.

In partnership with the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC), CDRRMO said that medical response and rescue templates were enhanced, and conducted rescue operation simulations for the event.

“We have done the training for our emergency medical response team. That’s a two-day training so ready na pud sila (they are now ready)," Alfredo Baloran, CDRRMO Head, said during the iSpeak press conference on March 23, 2023.

Baloran said they will deploy 70 emergency medical responders on March 24 to 25 for the Irongirls and Ironkids, while a maximum deployment for the Ironman event on March 26.

Meanwhile, Baloran said the City Health Office (CHO) will also install medical tents for the spectators.

Baloran said the SPMC will cater to the participants and athletes of the event while the CHO will focus on assisting the spectators.

Baloran said during the event a total of five medical stations will be installed in the three courses including foot medics and the 911 ambulances will be on standby.

He added that in order to avoid heat-related emergency cases, they have also prepared a misting machine in the running course.

However, despite the preparation and security measures for the event, Baloran said if a natural disaster occurs like an earthquake, a tremor of Intensity 3 or higher will result in the suspension of the races.
