GOVERNMENT forces apprehended three lawless elements in a joint law enforcement operation in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the military reported Friday, March 24, 2023.

Major General Antonio Nafarrete, 1st Infantry Division commander, said the suspects were arrested by joint police and military troops on Wednesday, March 22, in Purok Pang-Pang, Bangkaw-Bangkaw village, Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Nafarrete identified the arrested suspects as Sherham Timbang Alsree alias Samundo, 33; Karhi Timbang Alsree, 28; and Alih Jaji Alsree, 20, all residents of Bangkaw-Bangkaw.

The suspects were arrested in a law enforcement operation by way of implementation of search warrants for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the comprehensive law on firearms and ammunition.

Colonel Elmer Suderio, 102nd Infantry Brigade commander, said seized from the suspects were one M16 rifle, four caliber .45 pistols, several assorted ammunition, magazines, two hand grenades, three holsters for caliber .45 pistol, four sling bags and one bandolier.

The arrested suspects were the primary suspects in the killing of Bangkaw-Bangkaw Village Chief Abubakar Abdurahim Nieto and his son on July 4, 2021.

Suderio said the arrested suspects and confiscated pieces of evidence were brought to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Field Office for documentation, temporary detention, and filing of appropriate charges.

Lieutenant General Roy Galido, commander of Western Mindanao Command, attributed this success to the collaborative efforts of the security forces and the support from the communities.

“This accomplishment concretizes our effective implementation of the whole-of-nation in our area of operation. Rest assured that we will maintain our good relationship with our partners and stakeholders as we continue to work for peace and development here in Mindanao,” Galido said. (SunStar Zamboanga)
