EMERGING technologies and new concepts in the architecture industry take the centerstage for this year’s first architecture conference in Cebu dubbed ARCHTECHCON 2023.

In his opening speech, United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) C1 District director Buck Richnold Sia highlighted the importance of technology, specifically the use of artificial intelligence (AI), among other digital tools to help improve the quality of work and performance of an architect.

He said that incorporating the use of these technology and new methods strengthen the skills and increase productivity of architects.

“We have to improve our skillsets as architects. We need to improve ourselves so that we will upscale and ensure better quality, better living for the society and to our clients and users,” Sia said during the opening day of the three-day

ARCHTECHCON 2023 on Thursday, March 23, at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

The UAP has prepared on Saturday, March 25, six lectures that will touch on the use of AI as a vital tool in the architecture industry.

AI in architecture can be used in building information modeling software that allows architects to digitize their design models. AI helps identify potential issues and suggest improvements.

Drones are also an innovation in the industry as they are used for digital mapping and analytics during surveys and mapping on-site progress.

The conference will also provide lectures on the introduction to the online locational clearance system of the Cebu City Planning and Development Office, integrating energy performance analysis using various computation analytical tools and digital fabrication.

Moreover, Sia also stressed that as an architect, one has to work closely with the private and public sectors, especially in securing permits and transparency.

Professional architects also must not only focus on following and completing what the clients want, rather they must center on what is best for their clients.

Sia added that through this conference, more professionals will embrace upgrading their entrepreneurial skills that will be vital in transacting with their clients.

“We have few programs that will really improve entrepreneurship skills and financial productivity,” Sia said.
