ABOUT five barangays in Bacolod City have joined the 1st Mayor Albee Barangay Fire Olympics at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) grounds on Friday, March 24, 2023, as part of the Fire Prevention Month celebration.

City Fire Marshall Chief Inspector Rodel Legaspi said the Barangay Fire Olympics was participated by the qualified Community Fire Auxiliary Group (CFAG) members of the barangays.

Eight of the 61 barangays—Tangub, Taculing, Estefania, Pahanocoy, Singcang-Airport, Granada, Handumanan, and Mansilingan—have formed the CFAG, but only five have joined the Barangay Fire Olympics.

These are Barangays Tangub, Taculing, Estefania, Pahanocoy, and Singcang-Airport.

Legaspi noted that the three barangays failed to participate because of their scheduled activities within their villages.

"We come up the 1st Mayor Albee Barangay Fire Olympics for our CFAG members to enhance their camaraderie and friendship because every time we have a fire incident, they help us as our force multiplier," Legaspi said.

He said the five participating barangays were tested on how they would act on bucket relay, hose throwing, and hose laying and replacement.

He added the winners will receive a certificate, trophy, and P8,000 cash for first place, P6,000 and P4,000 for second and third places, respectively, while the 4th and 5th places will receive P2,000.

Legaspi said he is hopeful that this activity will continue in the City of Bacolod to enhance the fire awareness in the barangays. He also expressed his gratitude to Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez for its support to the Bureau of Fire Protection.
