A CITY councilor said the possible re-hosting of Ironman 70.3 Davao will be discussed next week with Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte.

Al Ryan Alejandre, committee chairperson on tourism in Davao City Council, said the possible re-hosting of the international triathlon will be discussed with Duterte.

“Wala pa mi naghisgot (sa karon) (Not being discussed yet), but we will wait for next week [to meet with Mayor Duterte],” Alejandre said.

Alejandre said re-hosting Ironman will be good for the city's tourism and its exposure to many countries.

“Kung ako pangutan-on, nganong dili man (If I were to ask, why not)? It’s good for the city, daghan mo’g nakitang langyaw (we’ve seen a lot of foreigners). Definitely a welcoming sight in the city,” Alejandre said.

“Lingaw baya pod sila (Dabawenyos enjoyed the event).. It was also heartfelt jud para sa akoa (for me) because the region was together as one, nagtinabangay gyud (everybody helping each other),” Alejandre added.

However, the future hosting will still be for Duterte to decide on.

“Not for me to say, but it’s practical already, 49 countries participating, that means those countries had so much trust in our security and safety in Davao,” Alejandre said.

Davao City hosted the Alveo Ironman 70.3 triathlon three times – 2018, 2019, 2023. The 2023 edition still had its starting point atAzuela Cove, with nearly 1,700 athletes from 49countries taking part in the prestigious sporting event. ICE
