Sugbu-Max Bond was crowned the Cebu Architects Basketball Club Buildrite Cup 2023 champions after they outlasted the Metro Cebu-Flexicrete, 90-83, in the finals last Sunday at the Benedicto College gym in Mandaue City.
Sugbu-Max Bond dominated for most of the game and led by as much as 12, 55-43, but Metro Cebu-Flexicrete came storming back to within four, 70-74, at the halfway point of the fourth period. However, Sugbu-Max Bond just had too much firepower and put away their opponents in the endgame.
Chester Hinagdanan and Criz Matunog led the way for Sugbu-Max Bond with 18 points apiece—the former adding six rebounds and six assists. Chad Go added 13 while Renzel Lazarte put up 10 points and six assists. Dexsel Caadan finished with nine points and a whopping 17 rebounds.
Michael Cinco paced Metro Cebu-Flexicrete with 35 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Meanwhile, Datu Lapu-Lapu-Sapal 2N1 overcame the Cebu-Sinclair Paints, 91-89, thanks to a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Justin Aspacio. Cebu-Sinclair Paints held an 89-88 lead with just 1.9 seconds left but Aspacio sprung free in the corner and uncorked a triple that found its mark before the final buzzer sounded.
Elmer Cabigas led Datu Lapu-Lapu-Sapal 2N1 with 19 points while Lemuel Aspacio added 16. Justin Aspacio and Darren Morandante finished with 15 and 14 points, respectively.
Zach Go exploded for 43 points, eight assists, four rebounds, and three assists for Cebu-Sinclair Paints.
