Dabawenyos told: Report broken LED streetlights

A Davao City councilor urged Dabawenyos to immediately report the LED lights not working to ensure the safety of Dabawenyos and to make sure these are fixed.

“Gina-inform gyud nako every barangay nga kung naay busted na street lights sa ilaha pwede na sila mismo mo-report immediately sa Davao Light, pwede pud sa city government, pwede pud sa akoang opisina aron ma-replace dayon na og bago (I always asked the barangay officials to report any busted street lights immediately to Davao Light, they can also report it to us),” Davao City councilor Louie John Bonguyan, chairperson of the committee of energy and water, said on Davao City Disaster Radion on March 23, 2023.

“Monthly man gud na atong bill sa street lights, so whether we like it or not, nagsiga mana siya or wala, bayad na na sa atoang syudad (We are paying monthly on these street lights, so whether we like or not, even its not working we are paying for it),” he added.

Aside from its expenses, Bonguyan said it is important to report busted lights to avoid untoward incidents in unlit areas.

“Kung hayag ilang mga barangay less atong mga kriminal, less atong mga problema gyud sa barangay nga mga riot sa mga bata (If the barangay is well-lit, there should be fewer problems, especially riots),” he said.

“Kanang standby sa mga bata diha sa mangitngit nga lugar ug basin naa pud sila’y ginahimo diha nga dili maayo (There are young people who would stay in poorly lit areas and they could be doing something bad there),” he said.

“Pero once nama-energize or masigahan nato ning ilahang barangay, siguro mahadlok na ning mga batan-on or mga katawhan nato nga maghimo og dili maayo (But once we will be able to put lights in the barangays, it could deter troublesome young people or individuals from causing problems),” Bonguyan said.

Also, he added that this will also reduce vehicular accidents.

He said a total of 40,000 to 43, 000 street lights were converted into LED lights and they will add more to make Davao City streets brighter. KSD
