SSS tells employers: 'Don't be afraid of RACE'

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO The Social Security System or SSS has told employers in the region not to be afraid of the agency's ongoing Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) Campaign.

The agency said this is just meant to remind them of their obligation to remit on time employees' contributions according to the proper and correct list and record.

SSS Central Luzon Legal Department Head Vic Byron Fernandez over the weekend said that "it is not the intention of the agency to sow fear among employers.

According to him, the Race program is aimed to remind employees of their legal responsibility to their employees and avoid sanctions under Republic Act 11199 or the Social Security Act of 2018.

"The SSS RACE campaign aims to avoid penalties like fines and imprisonment against employers due to non-registration of the business with SSS, non-reporting of employees, non-production of employee records, and non-remittance of SSS contributions. During our rounds and inspections we remind employers of their obligations and responsibilities for the welfare of their employees," he said.

Fernandez advised employers not to shrug off or forget an SSS billing letter with a payment period of 10 days upon receipt to avoid legal problems that may arise and the 15-day demand letter that will succeed it, along with a possible criminal case.

The SSS, he added, is always open for resolutions on employers' concerns regarding contributions.

"Laging handa at bukas ang tanggapan ng SSS upang makipag-ugnayan sa mga employer na nais nang mag-settle ng bayarin kahit pa sa panahon na mayroon nang naihaing kaso na maaari pang mabigyang solusyon upang hindi na umabot pa sa pagkakakulong," Fernandez concluded.
