DPWH implements drainage project along Lopez Jaena St.

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Bacolod City is now implementing the drainage project along Lopez Jaena Street as part of the urban drainage master plan of the city.

City Assistant District Engineer Leah Jamero said Tuesday, March 28, the drainage construction was awarded to the three contractors and they eyed to finish the project in 200 calendar days.

She said each contractor has a different limit section of the road so they can work together simultaneously, adding that it may reach three kilometers from B. S Aquino Drive towards Libertad Public Market.

Jamero noted that the national government allotted almost P90 million to complete the project.

Jamero said there’s ongoing drainage construction along Rosario Street, Luzuriaga Street, Rizal Street, and Gatuslao Street.

She said they also requested the public utility owners to submit their as-built plan to determine their connections underground to avoid undue damages.

City District Engineer Abraham Villareal earlier said that the urban drainage master plan feasibility study was completed in 2020 by Pertconsult International, an engineering consultancy firm based in Bataan.

Villareal said they need to interconnect the drainages from the local and national roads.

He said they have so many flood control projects in Bacolod, which include in rivers and creeks, drainages on local roads, and construction of drainages on national roads.

He added that this year, the national government has allocated P444 million for Bacolod City’s drainage projects, which include the diversion channel that will pass through Rizal Street going to Bredco Port and Guimaras Strait.*
