CCPO identifies culprits in Kasambagan snatching incident

THE Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has already identified the culprits who robbed a woman who was outside of her home in Barangay Kasambagan at dawn on March 28 to let her pet dog relieve itself.

According to CCPO Chief Colonel Ireneo Dalogdog, they already know who the perpetrators are based on the CCTV footage in the area.

Their names, however, are withheld while an investigation is ongoing.

Dalogdog said one of the men was detained for theft last month in a barangay under the jurisdiction of Mabolo Police Station.

“Tagaan lang tamo sa background aning suspect nadakpan ni siya last month kay nangawat ni siyag sapatos ug ubang mga gamit sa panimalay pero nakagawas tungod kay gamay ang pyansa sa offense nga iyang nahimo,” the CCPO chief said.

(Just to give you the background of the suspect, he was arrested last month because he stole shoes and other belongings but was later released because the bail for the offense he committed was low).

Meanwhile, the victim (name withheld for security reasons) posted on social media about her experience while she was taking her dog out to defecate.

She said a habal-habal driver approached her and offered her a ride but she refused.

A few seconds later, the riding-in-tandem armed with an ice pick arrived, declared a robbery, took her cell phone and then fled.

“Nowhere is safe anymore. Around Kasambagan, it’s always the same pattern. A habal-habal rider would approach you, and ask if you need a ride. After your refuse, another rider with a passenger would rob you (their weapon of choice is an ice pick). And the same rider who asked you if you needed a ride earlier pretend to chase the culprit. And both motorcycle would just vanish into thin air,” the victim said in her post.

The victim had already reported the incident to Mabolo Police Station.

Dalogdog refuted the claim that Cebu City is no longer safe, saying that the incident was not alarming.

The CCPO wants to catch the criminals as quickly as possible to stop them from committing more crimes.

Dalogdog also ordered his men to conduct roving patrol in crime-prone areas throughout the city every now and then. (AYB, TPT)
