Japanese national dies after ‘shooting himself’ in Mabolo firing range

A JAPANESE national died after he allegedly shot himself inside the firing range in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City past 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2023.

Police identified the victim as Daigo Kokubo, 50, a native of Hokaido, Japan but temporarily resided at 207 Holiday Spa on Gov. M. Cuenco Avenue, Barangay Kasambagan, Cebu City.

According to Angelie Sonet Villacorta, marshal of Range Ammo-Nation Philippines firing range beside APM Centrale Mall, the victim arrived at their establishment at past 4 p.m. and asked for 21 rounds.

Kokubo allegedly even requested the range officer to take a video of him while doing the shooting.

Of the 21 bullets, two were left, one of which was shot at the target range, but the other was targeted at his head, killing Kokubo instantly.

Villacorta, who was still in shock, requested her co-workers for assistance in calling an ambulance.

The victim was already unresponsive when the rescue personnel arrived.

Major Eraño Regidor, chief of the Mabolo Police Station 4, immediately ordered his men to conduct an investigation into the incident.

The Mabolo police called the family of the victim in Japan to take care of the deceased, which is now in the morgue of a funeral parlor. (BBT, TPT)
