IN A world where financial stability is highly aspired for, there are individuals who dedicate their lives to helping others secure their future. One such individual is Antonio Romulo A. Abrantes, a financial advisor whose outstanding performance in 2022 positioned him among Insular Life’s (InLife) 2022 Club of Honors awardees.

The recognition as third place, Unit of the Year, not only highlighted Abrantes’ exceptional sales performance, but also his unwavering commitment to the noble mission of life insurance professionals to help Filipinos achieve their financial goals and prepare for life's uncertainties.

Hailing from Davao City, Abrantes earned his Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Rizal Memorial College in 1975, and became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) the following year. His personal journey, however, had its share of challenges, including some unsuccessful business ventures. Despite these setbacks, he persevered and pursued a career in government service in his thirties.

But it was not until he joined the insurance industry, following an early retirement from government work, that he found his true calling. Through his years of experience and diverse background, Abrantes has built a reputation as a highly-skilled financial advisor dedicated to helping his clients achieve financial security and peace of mind.

Abrantes noted that like all good fathers or parents, his desire to support their children’s education to pursue their respective careers is paramount.

“By the grace of God, I am thankful that we, parents, were able to provide the necessary means to achieve their individual careers: our daughter is now a medical doctor and a practicing general cardiologist, our son is a practicing medical surgeon and a fellow at the Philippine Association of Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgeons Inc., our third is a Bachelor of Science in Psychology graduate, and our youngest son is a practicing CPA-lawyer,” Abrantes shared.

“The financial means were ably provided when I joined the insurance industry through Insular Life. Our children are our real trophies in life. Through the years, representing Insular Life as a financial advisor dramatically changes our financial profile,” he added.

What began as a career motivated by a father's love quickly became a passion for helping others achieve financial security. His dedication to his clients and his commitment to excellence have made him a highly respected and successful financial advisor.

Abrantes explained that investing in life insurance is crucial, as it allows individuals and their loved ones to be financially prepared for life's unexpected twists and turns. As a financial advisor, he imparts the value of insurance and financial planning to his clients.

“I can still remember the earlier tagline of Insular Life ‘when someone depends on you, you can depend on Insular Life.’ This is so true. Life has so many surprises, some are very pleasant, some are not so pleasant, and some are even tragic. We cannot entirely avoid these, but we can prepare for these eventualities,” Abrantes shared.

“A client couple that we have were victims of the dreaded Covid-19, the husband and wife were both hospitalized. The hospitalization cost them more than a million pesos, yet the husband was not able to survive. The surviving spouse was so indebted to friends and relatives that she forgot that her husband had life insurance coverage,” he said, adding that the husband’s life insurance coverage helped the widow settle her debts and ease her financial burden.
