Cebu cops share safety travel tips with Holy Week travelers

POLICE in Cebu City and the province reminded the public to exercise caution when observing Holy Week and visiting tourist attractions during this long vacation from April 6 to 10, 2023.

The length of the holiday is expected to draw both local and foreign visitors to the province's and Cebu City's tourism destinations throughout the holy week.

To ensure the safety of passengers, CCPO Chief Colonel Ireneo Dalogdog will visit terminals and ports, including churches.

Dalogdog said they will advise the public on safety precautions to take when they return to their respective provinces in order to avoid becoming victims of crimes like robberies and theft.

“Amo sila advisan nga magbuhat silag tarpaulin nga naa silay pahimangno or security tips nga ilang ipaabot sa katawhan ilabi na didto sa mga manimba,” Dalogdog disclosed.

(We will advise them to create a tarpaulin that contains a warning or security tips that they will convey to the people, especially the churchgoers).

Lieutenant Colonel Mark Gifter Sucalit, deputy provincial director for operations of the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO), said that despite deploying policemen in the streets of every town, the public should also be on alert.

“Kung manglakaw ta dili lang nato na i-facebook, i-live or i-update nga wala ta karon diha kay naa ta diri kay we are giving idea sa would be criminal nga ang atoang property walay nag bantay,” Sucalit revealed.

(When we leave, let's not update, live, or post on Facebook that we are not there (in our home), as this could give the impression to potential thieves that our property is unguarded).

The CPPO will start deploying police personnel on Wednesday, April 5, in the municipalities where there are religious events, such as in Minglanilla and Bantayan Island.

CPPO Chief Colonel Rommel Ochave ordered his men to guard ports in the province, especially in San Remegio town, to maintain law and order for travelers heading to Bantayan Island.

He also instructed the tourist police to protect tourist hotspots for local and foreign visitors during the Holy Week. (AYB, TPT)
