WITH the National Government bent on addressing malnutrition in the country, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) is pushing for the establishment of local nutrition offices in cities and municipalities.

In a televised public briefing, NNC-Nutrition Information and Education Division chief Jovita Raval said there is a need for local government units (LGUs) to establish nutrition offices in their respective areas.

"Aside from strengthening the program, there is a need to establish nutrition offices in the local government units," said Raval.

She said doing so would increase the capacity of LGUs to address malnutrition.

The NNC said this is because having a local office will enable cities and municipalities to have full-time nutrition worlers.

"Currently, we don't have full-time nutrition workers that can deliver the services regarding nutrition in the locality," said Raval.

Earlier in the week, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. launched a P10-billion program aimed at addressing malnutrition in the country.

The program, dubbed as Philippine Multisectoral Nutrition Program, will be implemented in 235 cities and municipalities across the country. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
