A CEBU CITY official wants all transactions in City Hall to be cashless.
Vice Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia said it will be more convenient and easier for taxpayers and other residents doing business with the City.
Garcia said he will introduce his proposed ordinance for this purpose to the City Council at the next regular session after the Holy Week.
On Wednesday, March 29, 2023, Garcia and other city officials launched the CPESO, the first pero-based stable cryptocurrency developed in the Philippines.
The vice mayor, in an interview on Friday, March 31, said the CPESO will be one of the platforms that taxpayers can use once his ordinance is approved.
Garcia said the cashless system will also pave the way for the City to get more revenues.
“More convenient and accessible because they can pay in the comfort of their homes. This will also entice taxpayers to pay on time because it’s easier,” he said.
The public can already pay through GCash and Paymaya, but he said he also wants them to be able to pay using credit cards, Paypal, online banking and other service providers.
If the council approves his measure, Garcia said he plans to enter into a memorandum of agreement with more banks and other service providers aside from the Land Bank of the Philippines, whose platform the City is currently using.
“Once implemented, transactions in Cebu City will appear now in their websites or (mobile) apps,” said Garcia.
