Eastern Visayas police chief lauds Ormoc Swat team

BRIGADIER General Rommel Francisco Marbil, director of Police Regional Office-Eastern Visayas (PRO , was all praises for the new members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (Swat) team of Ormoc City during their graduation ceremony on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.

“You have the best Swat team. Ormoc is not just a city of beautiful people but also a city of brave Swat people. Kung may problema sa buong Pilipinas alam ko na kung saan tatawag, sa Ormoc City Police Office,” Marbil said.

The new elite police force from the Fourth District of Leyte completed a five-month training on “effectiveness, capabilities, and tactical proficiency in dealing with unexpected armed encounters and response scenarios.”

“Gusto natin ang mga kapulisan natin to always strive for excellence. We do that by introducing courses such as the SWAT,” said Fourth District Representative Richard Gomez.

“Peace and order, ito ‘yong core of service natin sa tao. Because of peace and order, Ormoc has become the most progressive and richest city in the whole Region 8...We will continue to give the best service that we can give,” he added.

The Swat personnel who received academic awards were Patrolman Jhunel Vargas, rank 1; Corporal Ruben Obradas, rank 2; and Corporal Junell Mentes, rank 3.

The leadership award was given to Master Sergeant Jomar Nerves, class president; Senior Master Sergeant Alexander Odejerte, class marcher; Patrolman Fiel Anthony Colilihan, top gun; and Team 2 composite team led by Master Sergeant Vicente Villarmino, best team.

Meanwhile, the Ormoc City Police Office, headed by Colonel Nelvin Ricohermoso, said that “with the presence of Swat team together with the local police officers, everything is expected to fall in place.”

“The program to create the Swat team was an initiative of the City Government, which they have also funded to propose the establishment of Swat unit and safeguard the growing community of Ormoc City,” it added, as it thanked the “full support” of the Ormoc City Government.

Gomez announced the distribution of monetary rewards amounting to P190,000 to the 16 Swat awardees. (SunStar Philippines)
