DENR renews 200 stewardship contracts in Sibuco

ZAMBOANGA. THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), through the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) of Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte, has renewed the Certificates of Stewardship Contract (CSC) of 200 CSC holders in Sibuco in the same province.

The recipients of the renewed CSCs are residents of Malayal, Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte.

The CSC is awarded to individuals or families occupying and tilling portions of forest lands pursuant to Letter of Instruction (LOI) 1260 for a period of 25 years and renewable for another 25 years.

The LOI 1260 is designated to maximize land productivity and enhance ecological stability, and to improve the socio-economic conditions of forest occupants and communities.

The renewed CSCs were distributed to the recipients on Monday, April 3, by officials of Cenro-Siocon, Sibuco Municipal Mayor Joel Ventura and other and municipal officials.

Engineer Rossel Leo Cardenas, Cenro-Siocon Development Management Officer, has encouraged the holders of the CSCs to be stewards of the environment and to abide by the terms and conditions stipulated in their contracts.

Cardenas represented Rey Jalandoni, Cenro-Siocon chief, in the distribution of the renewed CSCs.

Cardenas also assured Ventura that the agency will support his programs and projects specifically on the sustainable management and development of forests and forestland.

Before the distribution of the renewed CSCs, a short reorientation of duties and responsibilities of holders of the CSC and orientation on Community-Based Forest Management per Department Administrative Order 2004-09 was conducted. (SunStar Zamboanga)
